Project

WHAT

For us, advocacy means promoting respect for and protection of international human rights and humanitarian law, either in relation to specific (individual) cases or, more generally, in relation to broader situations/topics. This means:

  • Reporting
  • Campaigning
  • Lobbying
  • Any other means used to influence relevant actors (especially policy- and decision-makers at any level)

WHO

AdvoC aims to offer 15-30 students enrolled in the University of Milan or any other higher education institution and recent graduates the chance to develop both the theoretical knowledge and a set of practical skills that will enable them to advocate effectively for international human rights and humanitarian law.

WHY

Advoc’s expected outcome is twofold:

  • Filling an employability gap in higher education by helping selected students and recent graduates develop the appropriate competences and skills for a career in human rights and humanitarian law advocacy; and
  • Promoting active citizenship and European values by teaching attendees to access available avenues for civil society participation, and disseminating relevant information to society at large.

HOW

This activity is carried out in the form of a spring-summer school (both in-person and online) and includes:

  • a ‘clinical’ activity starting in spring and requiring the attendees 3-month involvement in specific projects assigned by relevant stakeholders;
  • a series of seminars on the theory and practice of international, European, and national level; and
  • a final roundtable.

Outputs:

  • Open-access template training materials and attendees’ projects outputs (see Activities); and
  • 3 open live-streamed roundtables (see Events).
